About Rwxqsgd5

The people behind Rwxqsgd5, how each article about Sim racing, online racing games and motorsport is put together, and what we will not publish.

About this blog

Rwxqsgd5 is a blog, and the line under the logo, Faster laps, honest setups, is the whole editorial brief. New articles go up when they are ready, and everything we have published stays available in the blog archive.

Rwxqsgd5 started as a private notebook. Somebody kept a record of what was worth the money and what was noise, and after a few years that notebook was more useful than most of what was published online.

How this is paid for

The site pays for itself through a small number of outbound links. It has never been enough to change what gets written, and the day it is, we will say so here.

About the name

People ask about the name. There is rarely a good story behind a domain, and there is not one here either. Rwxqsgd5 was available, it was short enough to say out loud, and it has been the name long enough now that changing it would be more confusing than keeping it.

What we cover

  • Games. Online racing games and racing sims, from arcade fun to full simulation.
  • Sim Racing. Rigs, settings, leagues and the habits that make sim racers faster.
  • Racecraft. Racing lines, braking, overtaking and racing cleanly with others.
  • Motorsport. Real-world racing series and how to follow them without getting lost.
  • Track Guides. Circuits, their character and the corners that decide a lap.
  • Racing Gear. Wheels, pedals and seats for every budget, tested honestly.

Articles are filed under one topic each, so an archive page reads as a list rather than a pile. Most of the traffic here lands on games, sim racing and racecraft.

The limits of this site

There are questions we routinely decline. Anything that depends on facts only you can see, and anything where being wrong would cost you real money on our say so.

Who writes here

There is no house byline here. Each piece is signed, and each signature leads to everything else that person has put their name to.

Callan Thornbury, Editor. Callan has raced in online sim racing leagues for nine years, from rookie splits to the top division of a long-running endurance league.

Mirela Delahaye, Racecraft writer. Mirela works weekends as a track day instructor and uses racing sims to prepare students before they sit in a real car.

Jussi Saarinen, Gear and rally writer. Jussi grew up watching rallies in the Finnish forests and now tests budget racing wheels on a desk that has survived four clamps.

The method

We write from notes taken while doing the thing, not from a summary of other summaries. Where we are unsure, the page says so in plain words.

Nobody has editorial input except the people whose names are on the articles. That includes anyone who has ever sent us money.

The full process, including corrections and commercial links, is set out on the editorial policy page.

Telling us we are wrong

Corrections go to [email protected]. Quote the sentence rather than describing it. We would rather log a visible correction than edit a page and hope nobody noticed, and the contact page explains the rest.
